You said it best. Perfect way to describe the clash between fly fishing and tenkara.

But Glenn, tenkara has evolved, and in the same way, with newer, better rods and newer better lines. The newer lines are lighter and easier to keep off the surface to minimize drag, which really is the essence of tenkara. You can certainly use your heavier line but you are giving up the primary advantage tenkara offers. Sure, the heavy line feels familiar and is easier to cast with. The lighter tenkara line (level, not furled) is easier to catch fish with.
